Did you know that Mother’s Day in the U.S. preceded Father’s Day by a whole decade? That was pretty surprising! I mean, dads don’t play second fiddle to anyone! Fathers are fun, fantastic, frank and often flexible. Most of them love-love food and they are our biggest fans!
Oh yes, I know mommas can scream up a storm—lightning strikes and all. But there’s just nothing that compares to a strong, deep almost belch-like grunt that says, “Go get ‘em tiger!” In the voice of James Earl Jones or Patrick Warburton, I can hear you now dads (you can’t lose, you just can’t lose)!! 😊
It’s that time of the year for barbecuing, camping, hiking (use tick spray), kayaking, boating (wear sunblock), and so many others. It almost seems like Father’s Day marks the kickoff of all things fun!
Whatever you do as a family or solo, we at TN Hope want to recognize the protectors, providers and strong support in our lives, that (as the song well says) “nobody can deny!” Team National’s founding father, Dick Loehr, is prime example. Though he is no longer with us, he is ever present in the charitable causes we collectively contribute to, volunteer in and support.
If your dad is absent, we want to commemorate his life with you. If he is present, we celebrate him in sharing this sobering excerpt from MaryLou Loehr’s recently published book: Love, Laughter & Bubblegum.
Dad loved to walk his dog early in the
morning. He loved taking walks, in general.
When we traveled together, we loved taking
walks together. I walked fast. Dad walked so
fast Mom had to remind him that she had
little legs. So Dad would say, “We need to slow
down. We can’t miss everything around us.
We need to see the flowers. We need to see
the butterflies.” ~ Angela Loehr Chrysler
You may be super organized and planned something unique for Father’s Day, or you’re also super organized but still in the planning stages. If so, there’s still plenty of time. Take a cue from a well-lived life—slow down, don’t miss anything around you. See the flowers. See the butterflies. 😉
To the Loehr-Chrysler family, the butterfly was a sign that they were “exactly” where they were supposed to be. Whether this is your experience or not—if you are where you were meant to be or on your way there, the message is clear. It’s only one and we’re done. Slow down…look around and see!
Enjoy your special day dads!
